All the employees of the internal audit units will be certified during the next two years, Deputy Minister of Finance Victor Barbaneagra said in the first conference of auditors, IPN reports.
According to the official, the formation of internal audit units in Moldova’s public sector started 5-6 years ago, but became more attractive after 2009, when the reform in the field was launched. Currently, there are audit units in all the public institutions and within local public authorities. About 100 public auditors work in these units, 32 of whom were certified.
“The role of the internal audit unit is to monitor how public money is spent and to assess the risks of the processes and activities performed in a public institution. The internal auditors must present the analysis of these risks to the institution managers so that they can take correct decisions with a view to achieving the set objectives,” said Barbaneagra.
The discussions in the conference cantered on the progress made in doing the reform, the prospects for the future, the implementation of the best European practices in the field of internal auditing.
