Moldovan artist and director Petru Baracci departed this life yesterday evening at the Hospital of the State Chancellery, where he had been operated on Thursday morning. On July 25, the artist would have turned 81, Info-Prim Neo reports. [Update] Sandu Grecu, the head of the Theater Union of Moldova, stated for Info-Prim Neo that Petru Baracci’s death is highly regrettable. “We must praise the people when they are alive. Owing to his talent, personality and kindness, he was able to keep us together. He is an example that should be followed,” he said. According to him, Petru Baracci headed the Theater Union in the most difficult period for the country and, during nine years, fought to prevent the disbandment of the Union. [Update] The pupil and friend of the late actor Vladimir Cobasnean said it is a huge loss as Petru Baracci was one of the titans of the Moldovan theater. “I went to speak to him yesterday morning, but did not manage to see him,” Vladimir Cobasnean said regretfully. Petru Baracci was born in Bolgrad. He studied at the Theater Institute “Ostrovski” in Leningrad /Saint Petersburg/. For over 30 years, he had played memorable parts at the Musical Dramatic Theater “Pushkin”, now the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu”. He made his debut in the movies in “Moldovan Melodies” made by the Odessa film studio. In 1963, he performed in Emil Loteanu’s movie “Wait us at Dawn” and in “A Swan was Swimming Past”. Petru Baracci was a member of the Filmmakers Union. In 1997-2005, he had headed the Theater Union of Moldova.
