The Prosecutor General’s Office has started an investigation into a public contract to buy ID blanks by the former leadership of the Public Services Agency where amounts and prices were allegedly inflated. The probe has been initiated in reaction to a complaint by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița, the PGO said in a press release.
“Preliminary investigations have led to reasonable suspicions that persons in leading positions at the Public Services Agency concluded fraudulent agreements and annexes to buy services, bypassing proper tender procedures, so as to favor a particular contactor”, says the press realease.
“Prosecution actions are under way to exhaustively, objectively and multilaterally investigate the circumstances of this case”.
Natalia Gavrilița reported about this case that involves a 500 million lei contract back in September. She said that that particular “attempt to defraud the state budget” had been thwarted, but an audit revealed “an embezzling scheme” with more episodes. “I really hope the money is recovered in the end”, Natalia Gavrilița said then.
