The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) will dispute the sentence passed by the Centru Court against a citizen of Germany in a higher court. The German citizen was fined 18,000 lei for organizing illegal migration and attempt to illegally take children out of the country, IPN reports.
In a communiqué, the PGOs says the German citizen is the member of a criminal group. The prosecutors demand that the man be sentenced to five years in jail. The German intended to transport nine Turkish citizens, including three minors from Moldova to France. For being taken to France to work, the victims paid by €1,500 to €2,000 each. In January 2011, the culprit hid the migrants in the trailer of the truck he drove and attempted to cross the border. The hidden persons were found by the border guards.
In 2011, the German citizen ran away from Moldova using another passport. He was thus put on the wanted list and was later extradited to Moldova by the Slovenian authorities. He is now in custody. His accomplices are being looked for.
It was established that the culprit was helped by a Moldovan woman who worked as a translator and guide for the migrants on Moldova’s territory. In July she was fined 18,000 lei as she admitted her guilt and cooperated with the investigation body, and also has two minor children.
