Half a century's worth of archeological works in Moldova was exhibited in photos on Friday, October 12, at the National Library. The “Chisinau's historical-archeological patrimony” exhibition displays the most representative archeological finds, with dates ranging from the paleolithic till the modern era, reports Info-Prim Neo. National Archeological Agency director, archeologist Vlad Vornic stated that the images displayed depict the first archeological dig sites (Chisinau, Budesti), as well as a sketch of the Getae fortress (centuries 5-3 B.C.) near Durlesti. “The scientific side of archeology takes place in offices, but public archeology must also be done, since it will bring these archeological vestiges to the knowledge of the public”, mentioned director Vlad Vornic. According to the archeologist, an acute problem for Moldova's cultural patrimony is the devastation of archeological sites by treasure hunters, as well as during constructions or territory management works. “We must stop this kind of destruction, and preserve this patrimony for future generations”, specified Vornic. “Pro Memoria” Social History Institute president Anatol Petrencu said that, through this exhibition, the organizers want to draw attention towards what we have and what we can lose as a result of demolitions or unauthorized digs. “We must take care of what the earth preserves. It is our history and memories that are being “demolished”, we want to raise awareness, so that people know that we have a history. This history must be found and treasured”, mentioned the historian. The mobile exhibition is made up of 18 photographs, and will be displayed in the “Stefan cel Mare” Public Garden on Saturday, October 13. Afterward, the exhibition will be displayed in several of Chisinau's educational institutions.
