The Liberals condemn the position of President Igor Dodon, who requested the state institutions to intervene in the case of the communities that signed publicly for the union with Romania. According to the chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu, Igor Dodon encourages separatism and wants Moldova to be federalized. The Liberals requested the MPs to initiate a referendum on the removal of the President, IPN reports.

Mihai Ghimpu said Igor Dodon started to intimidate local elected officials because these stated their viewpoint in a democratic state, where everyone can freely express their political will. The President’s statement strangles this democracy. Igor Dodon often violates the Constitution and should be punished.

Deputy chairman of the Liberal Party Valeriu Munteanu said that in the fight against unionism Igor Dodon is helped by the ruling party one way or another. He encouraged the representatives of the local authorities to manifest their position by statements or someway else, including in the public sphere. The PL promises free legal assistance to the representatives of the local public authorities who will be discredited by Igor Dodon.

Several villages in the Republic of Moldova signed a symbolic document on the union with Romania. The first were the villages Parcova and Fantana Alba, which signed the document on January 24. Their example was followed by Festelita village of Stefan-Voda district, Opaci commune of Causeni district and the villages Rusestii Noi, Bardar, Ulmu and Vasieni of Ialoveni district.

President Dodon asked for reports from the competent institutions, namely the Security and Intelligence Service, Ministry of the Interior and General Prosecutor’s Office, and ordered to convoke the Supreme Security Council so as to take attitude to the measures aimed against the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, as the Head of State asserted.
