The Liberal Party (PL) entered the election campaign preceding the June 14 local elections. The party’s slogan in the current campaign is “They robbed us, betrayed us and it’s time to do justice”. According to the organizers, about 5 000 sympathizers and supporters of the PL took part in the event staged in the center of Chisinau on May 3, IPN reports.
The PL’s candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said that everyone was against the Liberals in 2005. “Today, after almost 10 years, history repeats. We are again facing them and they are all against us. Why? Because they are united by stealing, while we are united by humanity and the work we do for the people, for the inhabitants of Chisinau and all Moldova,” said the current mayor general, noting that no Government allocated money to the Chisinau administration since 2007, ignoring the capital city of Moldova.
“The slogan that unites them is: “No leu for Chisinau”, and this is what they – the Socialists, the Communists, the minority Government and all the rest - should say and write on all the posters. During 25 years, those who ruled us did nothing else but rob us. They are united by complicity, theft, misappropriation and illegal privatization. They have neither the moral nor legal right to claim Chisinau and Moldova. They say the situation is bad because of the holes in the asphalt or because particular things haven’t been finished yet. In fact the situation is bad because of the knife pushed into the heart and the back of every citizen of Moldova, who has been robbed in the period.”
The head of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said the people are now going through a difficult period. “We know all your problems and sorrows. We know that you experience difficulties and think what to feed your children on tomorrow, but this happened because you voted mistakenly and are thus today robbed and betrayed, including by those to whom you entrusted the power. We were robbed by the Turks, Mongols, Russians, but ours robbed us as nobody else did in the history of mankind. During over 20 years, almost all those who ruled the country thought about how to steal money, not about your lives,” stated the MP.
He added that the pensions and salaries are low because they robbed the state property. “That US$1 billion that they stole could have been used for the people’s interests or to pay pensions for two years ahead. We have bad roads because they robbed you. Half of the country’s roads could have been repaired with the stolen money. You have small child benefits because they robbed you. They stole your children’s money. Those who are in power cannot stop stealing. But things cannot go on like this. The thieves and traitors must be held accountable. You are the sovereign power and it’s time to do justice,” said Mihai Ghimpu.
After speeches were given, dozens of cars carrying the flags of the PL and the European Union traveled through the city in a column.
