PL might vote for Communists’ proposal only after formation of alliance, Mihai Ghimpu

The chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu, in a program on Pro TV Chisinau, said the PL may vote in favor of the PCRM’s proposal for electing the head of state, but only after the center-right ruling alliance is formed. “Why should we discuss the amendment of Article 78 (of the Constitution) if the PDM can form an alliance with the Communists,” Mihai Ghimpu said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “The PL considers we will not come out of the constitutional crisis if we accept this proposal. The Communists will not vote. They put forward this proposal before the elections. If the PLDM–PDM–PL form a coalition, they will not vote,” said the leader of the PL. He stressed that the Head of Parliament and Deputy Speakers should be elected and the parliamentary groups constituted before putting the constitutional amendment proposal to the vote. He also said that he has another solution for electing the President, but will make it public after the ruling alliance is formed. Under the proposal for amending Article 78 of the Constitution suggested by the PCRM, the head of state must be elected in three rounds by decreasing the number of necessary votes to a simple majority, i.e. 61 votes in the first round, 57 in the second and 52 in the third.
