The Buiucani Court accepted the application of the lawyers for businessman Veaceslav Platon concerning the unconstitutionality of an article from the Penal Procedure Court. The Constructional Court is to pronounce on the issue, IPN reports.
According to the defense, the article from the Penal Procedure Court refers to the replacement of the judge that examines the application to replace another judge. “The law now bans us from replacing the judge that examines the application to replace another judge,” stated Ana Ursachi.
The lawyer noted that at the end of the hearing held on September 14, Veaceslav Platon requested to question a number of persons, namely Vladimir Plahotniuc, Ilan Shor, Dorin Dragutanu and Victor Topa. The prosecutor is to examine this request within 15 days.
Veaceslav Platon is prosecuted for swindle and money laundering as a result of which damage of over 800 million lei was caused to Banca de Economii. The prosecutors established that the money that was illegally obtained as loans in Moldova was transferred to the accounts of offshore companies in order to hide their origin. Later, a part of this money was used to repay loans raised from Moldovan banks. Platon pleads not guilty.
