The Liberal-Democratic faction will respect the viewpoint of President Nicolae Timofti when the bill concerning the holding of office by the judges of the Constitutional Court (CC) is put to the vote again, the leader of the PDLM Vlad Filat said in a news conference, IPN reports.
“We will thoroughly analyze the arguments invoked by Nicolae Timofti when he refused to promulgate this law,” said Vlad Filat.
He stressed that Moldova needs experience as regards the regulation of the CC’s work. “We had discussions with our European partners that will offer us consultancy. We will afterward propose the necessary adjustments that will clearly specify the powers of this court,” said Vlad Filat.
He also referred to the challenges submitted by MPs to the CC over the recent amendments to the Election Code and concerning the powers of the interim Premier and the outgoing Government. “I’ve got the impression that they agreed what namely to dispute. But this will be a test for the Constitutional Court. It will either confirm its political affiliation or will carry out its duties in accordance with the constitutional norms,” said the former Premier.
On May 3, the lawmakers of the PLDM and PCRM voted together a number of bills. Nicolae Timofti promulgated them, except for the draft law concerning the dismissal of the CC judges.
