The United Moldova Party (PMU) has suspended negotiations on a potential merger with the Democratic Party (PDM). The stated reason is that the Democratic Party was misinformed by Eugen Nichiforciuc, a former top member of PMU, about an alleged exodus from PMU to PDM, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We are forced to temporarily suspend negotiations with (Democrat honorary president) Dumitru Diacov, until the PDM's leadership clears things up about this young fraud who misinformed them. In reality, no district organization of the party has left us, and the statements made on this issue are false. Only 23 members have left our party lately”, PUM leader Vladimir Turcan told a press conference today.
“I hope that PDM is very close ideologically to United Moldova”, said Turcan, adding that his party further remained open for dialogue with the Democrats. But this is not the only party PUM is considering to unite with. “We have been holding talks with a number of political parties on a potential merger. We believe that today political forces need to consolidate, because the political spectrum is very dispersed”.
Last week, a group of PUM members announced they were leaving the party to join PDM. At the same time, Ana Tcaci, the founder of PMU, said she was joining together with 12 district organizations another party.
