The National Liberal Party (PNL), at the congress held on August 7, unanimously accepted the party’s electoral message “Together towards the Union of 2018”. The PNL says the legislative body that will be elected in autumn will have to be pro-Romanian also, not only pro-European. In a communiqué, the party says those attending the congress ascertained the positive reaction of society to the proposal to create a European Bloc, especially given the dangers and risks to the European, pro-Romanian course of Moldova coming from the East, IPN reports.

First of all, the PNL calls on the Liberal parties to create a Liberal Bloc. “A Liberal Bloc will represent a driving force of the rapid intra-Romanian integration by a European Bloc. Responsible political will is thus required to hold a roundtable meeting of parties that have the word ‘liberal’ in their name and of those that do not have it, but consider themselves liberal parties. Civic entities that showed pro-Romanian and pro-European activism over the last few years will be welcome at the debate,” reads the communiqué.

The party says it is evident that the national voters want to see a union between the non-pro-Russian parties, which would be supported by the given segment of civil society. This fact would prevent the spreading of votes, destructive mutual attacks, the Communists’ revenge and the formation of a left anti-European parliamentary majority, especially together with the Communist Party, and would prepare the Union of 2018, for which a historical chance exists.

The Union Council, which includes the PNL, insistently asks the political class of Romania not to divide the liberal parties of Moldova into Romanian and non-Romanian, to have an equidistant attitude to all the liberal political entities and to morally and politically encourage the union of the pro-Romanian forces in Moldova.

Another aspect discussed at the congress was the socioeconomic situation in Moldova following the hostile decisions of Russia. The PNL considers the Governments of Moldova and Romania should hold a new joint meeting to identify solutions to unblock the export of agricultural products from Moldova.
