The Moldovan National Party (PNM) submitted a request to President Maia Sandu, asking her to withdraw the Moldovan citizenship of Ilan Shor and Vladimir Plahotniuc due to the deeds of the two, which cause damage to the national security of the country, IPN reports.

PNM leader Dragoș Galbur said that the initiative is a demonstration of the determination to get involved in combating organized crime in the sociopolitical life of Moldova. “We see very well that Russia is trying to undermine us as a state, as free people, using these felonious characters. Therefore, we must act here and now, with great firmness,” stated Dragoș Galbur.

According to him, the motivation of the request also lies in the repeated criminal activities of citizens Vladimir Plahotniuc and Ilan Shor, referring to the founding and running of a criminal organization, scams and money laundering in particularly large proportions, which served as grounds for the emigration of hundreds of thousands of Moldovan citizens.

Dragoș Galbur also said that the withdrawal of the citizenship of the two persons would secure the political life in Moldova, especially because a referendum, presidential election and parliamentary elections are coming.

In a reaction, the head of President Maia Sandu’s Office Adrian Băluțel said that the two mentioned persons, as Moldovan citizens, must answer before the law for crimes committed against the state and for stealing the people’s money, must serve time in Moldovan prisons in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Moldova. “We will examine the given request and will later make information on the issue public,” Adrian Băluțel posted on his Telegram channel.
