A number of persons were dispossessed of almost 4 million lei on the crytocurrency exchange by a criminal group. As the clients of such platforms allow the organizers to have access to their own funds for these to perform transactions with crytocurrency, the members of the group profited from this and appropriated the clients’ money instead of executing the agreed transactions, IPN reports.
The General Police Inspectorate said that since May 2022 until present, the suspects, together with citizens of other states, created a fake platform to trade in crytocurrency, with the name and interface similar to a world-renowned platform. After appropriating the money, the suspects bought luxury real estate and cars in Chisinau and Bucharest. One of the victims reported the wrongdoings to the police.
The property bought by these in Moldova and Romania, to the value of over 1.5 million lei, was sequestrated for recovering damages.
