As sales in the period of the winter holidays go up, some of the traders put up for sale food products and alcoholic drinks with the expired shelf life and without documents of origin as well as counterfeit goods, endangering thus the people's life and health, Oleg Putuntica, the head of the Frauds Investigation Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a news conference. According to the quoted source, an investigation was launched after a person complained that he got poisoned with counterfeit alcohol. The police found a batch of counterfeit Kvint – Siurpriznyi cognac. Afterward, they caught two young men aged 22 and 23 in the act of putting 140 more bottles of cognac for sale. “The two men sold the cognac through advertisements over the Internet. The clients contacted the 'suppliers by phone and agreed on the place of the meeting and the quantity. A bottle was sold for 100 lei. On the market, a bottle now costs about 200 lei,” said Putuntica. In Briceni, the police seized expired food products and alcoholic drinks as well as Ukrainian confectionery without documents of origin to the value of over 40,000 lei. The police also discovered irregularities at a Chisinau restaurant. 365 expired cakes worth 35,000 lei were kept in the fridge and were to be sold during the winter holidays. The offenders are liable to fines of up to 10,000 lei.
