Forged banknotes to the value of €20,000 were to be put into circulation in Moldova. The police arrested two suspects who were to introduce the bills that were forged in European states, IPN reports.
Head of the Economic Fraud Division of the National Investigations Inspectorate Alexei Bacos told a news conference that the suspects were to put euro banknotes with the nominal value of 20, 50, 100 and 500 into circulation. As a result of investigative measures, on April 1 the police arrested one of the suspects when this transmitted counterfeit bills totaling €9,000 to an officer under cover. The other suspect was caught later, when this intended to run away.
According to Alexei Bacos, in the second suspect’s bag the police found reportedly forged bills totaling €12,000, two biometric passports one of which is allegedly false, handmade tools for opening car and apartment doors and a white substance in a pack that is supposed to be a drug.
One of the suspects was earlier tried four times for similar offenses and for swindles. The men admit their guilt. They face 7 to 15 years in jail for putting forged banknotes into circulation.
