“The police have the right to intervene and examine the situation of the
company if they know or suspect that there are reasons. But I do not
understand why they came armed and masked to a company where most of the
employees are women and there is no real guard,” director of the dairy
company “JLC” Victor Cibotaru said in a news conference, referring to
the September 7 police raid, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Victor Cibotaru said the police argued they needed to check financial
documents in connection with two legal cases opened over tax evasion.
According to him, the cashier had been the target of a pistol for 40
minutes, until the looked for information was found. The inspection
lasted for five hours.
The director said the company works legally and pays taxes to the
budget. In 2010, the group of companies “JLC” paid taxes of 61 million
lei. 21 million lei of this sum was paid by the dairy factory. The taxes
paid into the budget this year totaled 56 million lei. The dairy factory
paid 32 million lei of this.
He also said that “JLC” is a group of companies that besides producing
dairy products, deals with retail sale, constructions and other
activities. It also owns businesses in CIS and European counties. The
shareholders are mainly local and there are no conflicts between them.
The dairy factory employs 900 persons.
Asked if the police raid may have been directed by their rivals, Victor
Cibotaru said the relations with them are relatively correct. “We surely
do not seek their advice, but try not to make the situation tense,” he
stated.
The director said he does not believe that what he said in the news
conference can somehow affect the investigation. He stressed the police
must do their job, but a cooperative company does not deserve such a
treatment.
On September 7, the Fraud Division of the Ministry of the Interior
carried out inspections at the dairy company “JLC” in Chisinau. Eugeniu
Onica, spokesman for the Minister of the Interior Alexei Roibu, has told
Info-Prim Neo that the operation was launched after they received
information about tax evasion at the company..
