Two employees of the Sângerei Police Inspectorate were arrested on suspicion of passive corruption. The two asked for 6,000 lei from a young man for freeing him from punishment for driving under the influence of drugs.
According to the National Anticorruption Center, one of the police officers was a specialist in recording details of road accidents, while the other one was an investigating officer.
Legal action was taken against the two. If they are found guilty, they will be fined 300,000 to 400,000 lei and will be jailed for at most ten years. The officers are now held in the remand prison of the National Anticorruption Center.
Contacted by IPN, Mariana Beţivu, press officer of the General Police Inspectorate, said the Inspectorate condemns such cases among employees of the institution and underlines that it does not tolerate corruption in the police. The Inspectorate will offer the support needed by the competent institutions in the investigation of such cases.
