Police officers who maltreated persons in April 2009 promoted

Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca announced that he will seek explanations from the Government and the Ministry of the Interior as to why police officers involved in the April 2009 maltreatment acts were promoted and decorated. In the April 4 meeting of City Hall officials, the mayor presented a list of 30 policemen who appear in the pictures taken on April 7. They were awarded and promoted to higher posts, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I remained perplexed. I cannot understand why persons who were caught red-handed with the help of video cameras were promoted and received higher ranks. Instead of investigations and punishments, we witness promotions,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. He stressed that the persons were promoted by former Ministers of the Interior Gheorghe Papuc and Victor Catana and by current Minister Alexei Roibu. “The City Hall cannot hold persons accountable. This is the duty of the state institutions,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. The list of the 30 police officers will be published on the official website of the Chisinau City Hall.
