The police trade union expressed its disagreement with the law on the reform of the pension system, in particular with the part concerning the equaling of pensions of former police employees with those of other pensioners, and threatened with protests if these provisions are not reviewed, IPN reports.

In a news conference on November 25, Mihai Lascu, head of the sector Trade Unions Federation “Sindlex”, said the diminution of pensions for police employees endangers public and even state security.

“The employees of the police endanger their lives. When they go to work in the morning, they are not sure that they will return home. A higher pension motivates them to remain in the system. The diminution of pensions will lead to a large number of resignations and this will endanger public order and security,” argued Lascu.

According to the chief of “Sindlex”, studies show that the average life expectancy for police employees is of 57 years. This makes many police officers to leave the system. “The situation is worrisome. Well trained specialists are put in the situation to join the reserve police and unqualified persons are employed instead of them,” he said.

Mihai Lascu also said that the police employees are ready to mount protests if the amendment is not reviewed. “Strikes or protests will not be staged during working hours, but they have the right to protest peacefully during the free time, as their families can do,” he stated.
