A sector police officer of the Ciocana Police Inspectorate was arrested on passive corruption charges. He is suspected of extorting €200 from a man from Bubuieci for not starting a criminal case over domestic violence again him, IPN reports.
The police officer was denounced by the man who was suspected of domestic violence. The police took legal action over passive corruption. Last week, under the control of anticorruption officers, the denouncer passed on half of the asked sum. Today, the police officer was remanded in custody for 72 hours.
The policeman faces five to ten years in jail, a fine of 300,000 to 400,000 lei and ban on holding public posts or performing a particular activity for a period of seven to ten years.
Also today, the Police said a man from Chisinau was arrested on charges of domestic violence that resulted in death. The body of the female partner was found by neighbors. The 45-year-old man will serve a maximum jail term of 15 years if he is found guilty.
