A police officer arrested on February 17 could be jailed for use of torture. According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, the policeman tortured a minor from Graseni village of Ungheni district to make him admit to committing an offense, IPN reports.
The police officer suspected that the minor stole fish from a pond and obliged him to swim and take the nets out. He humiliated the minor and threatened him in the presence of other persons. The given actions had unfavorable effects on the boys’ health and this needed medical care for a period.
A number of criminal cases were started against the employee of the Ungheni Police Inspectorate earlier, but these were dropped.
The police officer faces 8 to 15 years in jail and ban on holding particular posts or performing particular activities for a period of 10 to 15 years.
