An investigation officer of the Cantemir Police Inspectorate was arrested on suspicion of use of torture. He will be held on remand for 30 days, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, in April 2016 the policeman beat three young men, two of whom were minors, because these didn’t admit to committing a theft. The victims filed a complained against the officer, but this continued to use violence, pressing them into withdrawing the complaint and changing their statements.
If the officer is found guilty, he will serve up to 15 years in jail and will be banned from holding particular posts or performing particular activities for a period of up to 15 years.
