An officer of the Patrol and Sentinel Battalion of the Balti Police Commissariat was arrested by anticorruption officers on bribery-related charges. His colleague managed to run away. Though the anticorruption officers presented themselves, the policeman fired two shots – one in the air and another one at the officers, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Anticorruption Center.
A driver informed the Center that a police officer asked for 2 000 lei from him for allowing him not to take the breath test. He gave him 500 lei on the spot and was to transmit the rest of the sum later.
Legal action over passive corruption was taken on the basis of the driver’s complaint. As a result of investigative measures, the policeman was caught in the act of taking the 1 500 lei marked ‘bribe’ in a police car near a shop in Balti. There was also his colleague in the car, but he escaped and has not been caught yet.
