The inhabitants of Porumbeni commune in Criuleni district, who are supplied with water through the aqueduct of the Scientific Practical Phytotechny Institute “Porumbeni”, were cut off over a month ago because of debts. Alexandru Erhan, the head of the Water Supply Station in Pascani village, which includes Porumbeni, told Info-Prim Neo that the residents in Porumbeni have large debts. “How can we supply them with water if they do not pay? They consumed water throughout winter, but paid nothing. We will resume the supply of water only when they settle their debts,” Erhan said, adding that the debts total 24,000 lei. On the other hand, the head of the Public Utilities Division in Pascani Lilian Mitrofan said there must be some mistake as the villagers pay for the water. “The Public Utilities Division hadn't had a director for two months. I left because I was not supported by the mayor's office of Pascani, but nobody was named in my place. Now the councilors promised that they will provide technical assistance to the Division and I came back,” he said. According to Lilian Mitrofan, the debts of 24,000 lei were paid and the villagers are to be reconnected to the water supply system by Wednesday evening. Porumbeni has about 1,500 residents. The 100 families that live in apartment buildings fetch water from the village wells.
