The deputy chairman of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) Alexandru Slusari said the announcement about the starting of a criminal case over the planning of mass disorders made by the General Police Inspectorate is an action aimed at intimidating those who want to take part in the protest. Contacted by IPN, Alexandru Slusari said during three years since it started to mount protests, the PPPDA committed no violation, but the people continue to see their basic rights to freedom of assembly and movement violated.
Alexandru Slusari said that during three years the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” has organized hundreds of peaceful protests. Each time the provocations were staged by the police and infiltrated security service employees. “The same happened in the last protest mounted near the Chisinau City Hall on June 21. We have protested peacefully for three years and do not intend to do something else. But we see that the government, after flagrantly neglecting the people’s wish stated in elections and thus making the people to take to the streets owing to its anti-democratic actions, now tries to maximize the tensions,” he stated.
“I warn the foreign partners about this and about the order to maximally obstruct the coming of participants to this Sunday’s protest given to local police stations. I’m afraid the public transport will be suspended tomorrow morning in a number of towns and villages.”
The General Police Inspectorate on June 23 said it started a criminal case over the preparation of mass disorders based on reasonable suspicions. The police identified persons who incite to violence, pogroms, destruction of property and putting up of resistance to representative of the authorities through social networking sites.
The Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” announced a large-scale protest that is to be mounted in front of the Chisinau City Hall starting at 2pm on June 24. Protests started to be staged after the Chisinau City Court on June 19 decided to not validate the mayoral elections held in Chisinau and this decision was later upheld by the Appeals Court.
