The Political Party “Our Party” issued a statement whereby it demands to withdraw the law whereby the mixed-member electoral system is introduced. The PPPN condemns the criminal agreement between Vladimir Plahotniuc’s Democratic Party and Igor Dodon’s Party of Socials whose MPs adopted the law on the so-called mixed system with flagrant violations of the legislation. The party calls on the MPs of the parliamentary opposition to challenge the law in the Constitutional Court, IPN reports.

According to the deputy head of the PPPN Elena Gritsko, the mixed electoral system was adopted with a series of violations. “The Plahotniuc-Dodon duo ignored the recommendations of the Venice Commission and didn’t organize real consultations with the opposition, civil society and the foreign partners. At the same time, the law runs counter to articles of the Constitution that refer to democracy and political pluralism, the right to choose and be chosen, etc.” she stated.

Another deputy head of the party, Dumitru Chubashenko said the PPPN will use all the legal ways to obtain the annulment of the law on the mixed electoral systems, including protests.

According to deputy head Ilian Casu, the mixed electoral system will favor voter corruption. “The mixed electoral system has nothing to do with the democratic future of the Republic of Moldova and will transform the country into the North Korea of Southeastern Europe,” stated Ilian Casu.

He also condemned the actions of the police officers dressed in civvies, who used force against members of the PPPN. According to him, such behavior by policemen infiltrated into the crowd was used to provoke in a professional way and these are anytime ready to use force.

Though a video connection, Mayor of Balti Renato Usatyi said the party will boycott the law proposed by Dodon and Plahotniuc together with the parliamentary opposition. He noted the protests that were mounted and are yet to be mounted are aimed at informing the foreign partners about the developments in Moldova.
