The launch of an investigation into the concession of the Chisinau International Airport, determination of the legality of the National Energy Authority’s decision to raise the gas and electric power tariffs, restoration of the money stolen from the banking system and unblocking of the relations with the foreign donors are the immediate top priorities of the new Government, Liberal-Democratic Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet said in the program “In depth” on Pro TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.
The Premier stated that a decision will be soon taken about the provision of compensations for energy resources to families on low incomes. Simultaneously, measures will be taken to establish the legality of the ANRE’s decision to approve the higher tariffs. “I understood that we purchase electricity through a firm from Transnistria and pay a price that is three times higher than the one set by the supplier. We will investigate this issue,” said Strelet.
As to the concession of the Chisinau International Airport, the new Prime Minister said he doubts the legality of the concession decision and will order an inquiry into this case. He noted he will also ask for an audit to decide on the liquidation of the three banks involved in the stealing of money. “Experts should provide conclusive evidence showing whether the banks must be liquidated or not. We also want the company Kroll to continue the investigations, but we cannot impose the National Bank, which claims to be an independent institution,” he stated.
Asked why the Liberal Democratic Party conceded the Ministry of Justice to the Democratic Party, which is said to be controlling the law enforcement bodies, Strelet said the ministerial portfolios were distributed based on an algorithm. “The Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Defense were included in one group. The PLDM had preeminence and chose the Ministry of the Interior. The PDM chose the second and it picked the Ministry of Justice. We tried to negotiate with the PDM in this regard, but didn’t manage to. But things do not stand so bad. Society and the foreign partners have their eye on the justice sector reform. Those from the PDM realize the responsibility they assumed,” said the Premier.
Valeriu Strelet also said that he will cooperate intensely with Parliament so as to swifter achieve the set objectives. “I have several years’ experience of work in Parliament and know how things work. We will cooperate intensely. It’s not right that an independent Premier can solve something without the support of the political parties,” he stated.
