Prime Minister Iurie Leanca’s proposal to implement a new program of studies for Moldovan young people in Romania envisions extending, not restraining the existing possibilities. The Premier proposed extending the possibilities of studying in Romania through the university exchange program Erasmus, not replacing the system of scholarships offered by the Romanian state by it, the Premier’s Spokeswoman Liliana Vitu specified for IPN after a number of media outlets misinterpreted a news item broadcast by the agency on July 13.
According to Liliana Vitu, the Premier suggested widening the possibilities for the young people studying in Moldova so that they take part in an experience exchange program with Romania.
“Prime Minister Iurie Leanca’s proposal does not refer to the 5,500 scholarships provided by the Government of Romania for those who want to study in Romania. He proposed the university exchange program Erasmus, which is a successful program of the EU that involves 1 million students,” said Liliana Vitu.
In a program on Radio Moldova last week, Iurie Leanca said he suggested to his Romanian counterpart Victor Ponta a program within which the Moldovan young people could study in Romania for half a year or a year and then could return home. He referred to the Erasmus program and Victor Ponta supported his proposal.
