President Igor Dodon ordered to set up a committee for organizing festivities on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Iași-Chișinău Operation. Also, a working group of the presidential team will make a documentary about this historical event.
“I congratulated all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova on the occasion of this great anniversary and expressed my regret at the fact that this historical date was not included in the list of official holidays of the Republic of Moldova,” President Dodon wrote on his Facebook page.
The Iași-Chișinău Operation is described by some historians as one to liberate Bessarabia from the German-Romanian occupation, while by others as the start of the Soviet occupation. It refers to the battles between the Red Army and the German-Romanian allies of the end of August and the start of September 1944.
