After visiting the Bulboaca training area earlier this week, President Igor Dodon today visited the military air base Decebal in Marculesti and a military storage facility in Floresti. The commander-in-chief said he didn’t find there “anything uncommon and no sign of foreign troops”.
“I think the Ministry of Defense needs a radical reform, especially so that military service becomes mainly contract-based, with professional personnel that is well-motivated by the state so as to be capable of reacting to exceptional situations. I also think that we need to return the social guarantees offered to militaries and taken away by the government in 2009”, wrote Igor Dodon on his FB account.
The president said these and other issues will be discussed at the Supreme Security Council on August 29.
“I’d also like to express my regret at the fact that some politicians are preparing for the new political season and are trying to speculate with national security issues, which is appealing to the public, but they don’t understand that this can greatly damage our country and people”, said the president.
Igor Dodon further stated that as commander-in-chief he will do everything possible to ensure peace and preserve Moldova’s neutral status, meaning no military bloc membership.
