The mandatory health insurance policy this year will cost 4,056 lei as last year, not 4,860 lei as it was provided initially in the draft mandatory health insurance funds law. The health insurance premium for persons who pay insurance from the salary will be higher than last year. It will be 9%, up from 8% in 2014, and will be equally paid by the employer and the employee – by 4.5%.
Minister of Health Mircea Buga explained that the decision to keep the price of the health policy was taken because many people already purchased the policy at last year’s price, before the mandatory health insurance funds law for 2015 was adopted.
The period during which a health insurance policy in fixed amount can be bought will be extended by three months, since the law is published in the Official Gazette. The owners of farmland will pay 25% of the premium, which is 1,014 lei. For other persons who purchase policies individually, the 50% reduction in the price of the policy is kept.
This year the Ministry of Health projected that mandatory health insurance policies of 103.6 million lei will be bought this year, an increase of 9.5% on last year. About 54,000 persons are expected to insure themselves medically in an individual way, as against 48,800 in 2014.
