Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet said that there are no overdue wages in the public sector, but he admitted the situation is different in the private sector. As regards the demands for the indexation of wages and pensions, the PM stated that they need to be developed into a concrete project and then the government will announce its public position, IPN reports.

“It's easy to ask, but it's difficult to find the funding to satisfy these demands. Of course, there is the prospect of negotiating an agreement with the IMF, but we'll see. I'd like unions to participate actively in these discussions. We are willing to listen to everyone's opinion. We will examine this and other proposals, including at the meetings of the 3-party commission, and we'll try to find solutions. Obviously, within the limits of our real possibilities and resources”, said the PM.

The National Confederation of Unions has demanded the indexation of wages, pensions, subsidies and individual bank deposits in order to avoid social tensions stirred by the increased prices for gas, electricity and many of the basic goods.
