The pro-European alliance formed on the Chisinau Municipal Council is falling apart following the withdrawal of council Ion Stefanita, of the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM), from it. Ion Stefanita made the announcement about his withdrawal in the talk show “Interpol” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.
“I denounce the agreement signed on September 3. I will vote as my heart and my intuition tell me to vote. I will support the residents of Chisinau, not the voting machinery. I do not want to play someone’s game. I will vote only for the decisions that promote the interests of the inhabitants of Chisinau,” stated Stefanita.
The agreement to form the pro-European alliance on the Council was signed by 17 Liberal councilors, six councilors of the PPEM, two councilors of the Liberal Democratic Party and one Democratic councilor on September 3, 2015. The 19 councilors of the Party of Socialists, three Communist councilors and three councilors of the “Our Party” moved to the opposition.
Without Stefanita’s vote, the pro-European alliance does not hold a majority on the Council that consists of 51 councilors.
