The Civic European Movement that consists of members of Moldova’s first Parliament, who voted the Declaration of Independence, and of personalities who promoted the national liberation and renaissance, call on the pro-European parties to propose common candidates for the new local elections in the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti. According to a call made public on March 5, the stake of these elections is essential not only for the fate of the capital city and Balti town, but also for the upcoming parliamentary elections that will take place this yearend, IPN reports.
The call says the preconditions for winning the parliamentary elections will be set in the local mayoral elections that will be held in Chisinau and Balti municipalities, while the fielding of common candidates would substantially increase the pro-European forces’ chances of tempering the Socialists’ revanchism and of taking over the power that is now exercised irresponsibly for Moldova’s European course.
“We call on the leaders of the pro-European parties to realize the risks to which they expose the European course of the Republic of Moldova if they venture to unilaterally field the own candidates. This would be a contraflow move that would dramatically reduce the pro-European camp’s chances of winning the municipal elections and would minimize the people’s last hope that things in the Republic of Moldova will change,” says the call.
The Civic European Movement considers the responsible treatment of the current political situation by the leaders of the pro-European parties and the respectful treatment of the citizens would generate exemplary mobilization of the pro-European voters against the anti-national and oligarchic forces.
