Probation officer arrested for selling counterfeit currency

Anticorruption officers arrested the head of a probation office on suspicion that he forged US dollars and put them into circulation, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Anticorruption Center, the servant, together with other persons who haven’t been yet identified, put counterfeit US$100 bills into circulation, especially at markets and service stations in Chisinau. A part of the money was exchanged for lower amounts of genuine dollars. The anticorruption officers directed the purchase of 6 300 forged dollars for 2 600 genuine dollars. One of the suspects was arrested when he was trying to sell counterfeit dollars. A criminal case was opened against the officer over forging of money and putting it into circulation. The man faces five to ten years in jail.
