The procedure for obtaining the Romanian birth certificate has been simplified, the Embassy of Romania in Moldova has said in a communique, quoted by IPN. The new procedure allows submitting the documents needed for obtaining the Romanian birth certificate immediately after taking an oath of allegiance to Romania.

This measure is designed to support the citizens who want to regain the Romanian nationality by shortening the period of time needed to obtain the Romanian documents. Thus, the citizens who want to submit the documents for being issued with the civil status documents the same day they take an oath of allegiance do not need to schedule an appointment beforehand and are thus spared of the need to travel again to the Consular Section.

The Embassy of Romania also informed that the people who want to submit the documents needed for being issued with civil status documents at a later time must schedule an appointment at the information office or through the Call Center on 022 855 002, which is available from Monday through Friday, between 8am and 2pm.

The documents needed for obtaining the Romanian birth certificate by the citizens born on Moldova’s territory are: birth certificate issued by the authorities of Moldova (original and legalized copy), the marriage certificate or the extract of the marriage certificate, the divorce or death certificate (a simple copy in the case of divorced persons or widows/widowers), the valid identity card (simple copy) and the Romanian nationality certificate.
