A project of US$2.9 million intended for the women living in Moldova's rural areas was launched recently. It will support the implementation of policies that promote and protect women's rights and the institution of efficient legal women employment mechanisms, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The agreement on the implementation of the Economic Empowerment of Women through Increased Employment Opportunities in Moldova Project was signed by the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) and the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM).
In a communique, the Ministry of Economy says the program aims to inform and train women from and sub-urban areas. It will be implemented during 2010-2013.
Madelline Hagg-Liljestrom, the head of the SIDA Office in Moldova, stressed that the equality of the rights of men and women represents one of the priorities in the Agency's work, while the given project provides both the instruments needed to train the women and the microfinance scheme that helps achieve the set objectives.
