Projects of tens of millions of lei aimed at protecting the environment and developing green economy were included in the National Report prepared for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) that will take place in Rio de Janeiro on June 20-22. The report was presented on the World Environment Day that is marked on June 5, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Among the most important accomplishments included in the report is the project within which there were bought special vehicles to the value of 20 million lei, the project to rehabilitate the National Park Orhei and the construction of water pipelines in six districts.
The report envisions the adjustment of the national legislation to the EU standards, the adoption of the Law on Water and the Law on Technical Reconstructions, and the improvement of the Law on Environment Protection.
“The excessive exploitation of the natural resources, the treatment of wastewater, the recycling and the waste dumps are only some of the problems on which we should focus. The politicians, the businessmen, civil society and all the people should realize that we are responsible towards our children for how the land on which we live – our fields, forests, lakes, the flora and fauna - will look in the future,” said President Nicolae Timofti.
He also said that Moldova does not have many natural resources and the only way to build a prosperous future is to create an economy based on efficiency, production and sustainable consumption, on the rational use of natural resources, and on the protection of environment.
The report was compiled based on materials presented by ministries and on national policy documents and reports existing in the field.
