Prosecutor General ValeriuZubko offered his resignation. “I was at the meeting of the Parliament’s Standing Bureau when I was informed that the prosecutor general resigned,” Speaker MarianLupu said after the January 18 meeting of the Bureau, Info-PrimNeo reports. MarianLupusaid that he does not know details as to the reasons written by ValeriuZubko in his resignation, but approved of the fact that he took into account the suggestions of the public opinion. Prime Minister VladFilat and the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group insisted on the prosecutor’s resignation, arguing that the Prosecutor’s Office dealt inappropriately with the tragic incident that happened during hunting in the Domneasca Forest. After the meeting of the Council of the Alliance for European Integration, which preceded the Standing Bureau’s meeting, VladFilat reiterated that the prosecutor general should interrupt his paid leave and resign. Otherwise, the Head of Parliament should propose Zubko’s dismissal. If he refuses to do it, the legislation should be amended so that the prosecutor could be dismissed. The legislative body will hold an extraordinary session on January 21 to set up a commission of inquiry into the handling of this case by the law enforcement bodies.
