The Prosecutor General’s Office said the accusations that it persecuted and intimidated Ion Butmalai made by the Liberal-Democrat MP are groundless. In a communiqué, the institution says that such statements are aimed at intimidating the law enforcement bodies and generating distrust in the justice system in general, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The Prosecutor General’s Office detaches itself from the accusations made by MP Butmalai, which are unsupported and illogical and are a method of misleading both the legislative body and public opinion,” says the communiqué. As to the accusations of lack of action in the case “Dermenji”, the Prosecutor General’s Office says that it completed the investigation into this case. In 2006 – 2009, Oleg Dermenji swindled 14.8 million lei out of 54 persons and, as director general of Daniel-P SA, abused his position, causing damage of 8.5 million lei to another 24 victims. The case “Dremenji” was sent to the Cahul district court on August 11. Ion Butmalai was informed about this by an official letter. As all the judges of the Cahul court refused to examine the case, it will be sent to the Cahul Court of Appeals so that it chooses the court that will hear it in continuation. On October 6, Ion Butmalai asked Parliament to lift his parliamentary immunity so that he could be tried in a number of legal cases. In this connection, he said that he was persecuted by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
