A prosecutor from Ocnita, charged with traffic of influence, was sentenced to four years in jail and banned from working in the law enforcement bodies for a period of five years. His accomplice, a civilian, was put on probation for a period of three years, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The criminal case was started last January following a complained filed to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. The denouncer said somebody asked for €700 from him for influencing a prosecutor to take a favorable decision in the administrative proceedings that involved him.

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, in concert with the Ministry of the Interior’s Internal Protection and Anticorruption Service, caught the person who claimed that he can influence the prosecutor in the act of taking €400.

When being questioned, the given person said he was to transmit the money to a prosecutor from Ocnita. The prosecutor was arrested when he was receiving the €400 from the suspect. The Supreme Council of Prosecutors decided to suspend the prosecutor from his post.

Two weeks ago, a prosecutor from Floresti was convicted of acts of corruption. The criminal case over acts of corruption against another prosecutor, from Nisporeni, is pending.
