Prosecutor gets seven years for passive corruption

A prosecutor from Orhei was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for influence peddling. By the decision of the Botanica district court, he was also fined 20,000 lei and banned from holding a particular post for a period of three years, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the prosecutor asked for money from a person in order not to start a criminal case against this person’s sister-in-law. He was caught in the act of taking €300 in Sangera town on April 5, 2012. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court. Four prosecutors from Orhei, Glodeni, and Rascani districts and from Chisinau have been tried this year based on complaints filed by people.
