The family of a man who died, Iurie Chirita, accuses MP Vladimir Hotineanu, who is also a surgeon, of mistakenly operating him on the stomach and of taking money for the surgery that led to the man’s death in several months. The family demands that the prosecutors deprive the lawmaker of immunity so that he can be questioned and tried.

In a news conference at IPN, the victim’s brother-in-law Fiodor Ghelici said that in April Iurie Chirita had stomachaches and went to see a doctor. Initially, he planned to have examinations at the Oncology Institute of Chisinau, but was convinced by a person to go to the National Hospital, where Vladimir Hotineanu works.

Fiodor Ghelici said he found out later that the MP has a kind of agents all over the country, who recruit patients for him. “This surgeon-MP decided to operate Iurie the next day after he went to him, without performing examinations and analyses,” he stated.

After the surgery, the lawmaker asked for US$3,600 in reward for nurses, for anesthesia and for the days during which he stayed in the hospital. “The man had a health policy, but was obliged to pay for everything,” said Fiodor Ghelici.

Four months after the surgery, the man’s state of health worsened. In Tiraspol, he underwent chemotherapy, but it didn’t help him. On September 25, the man died. A criminal case was started in Rybnitsa based on the relatives’ request.

Fiodor Ghelici said that after Hotineanu operated Iurie Chirita, he asked him to find a corridor for smuggling contraband, given that he worked in the law enforcement bodies of Transnistria.

Fiodor Ghelici filed a complaint to the Prosecutor General’s Office, asking investigating Vladimir Hotineanu. If the MP is not deprived of immunity, Iurie Chirita’s relatives will stage protests in front of the Palace of the Republic. They will come with a coffin, which, according to them, is the symbol of doctor Vladimir Hotineanu’s work.
