Prosecutor's Office resumes investigation into killing of young man by police officer

The Prosecutor General's Office ordered resuming the investigation of the police officer who shot dead a 29-year-old man in Chisinau in March this year, Info-Prim Neo reports. The ordinance to stop the investigation issued earlier by the municipal Prosecutor's Office was abrogated as additional measures must be taken to objectively elucidate the circumstances of the case, the Prosecutor General's Office says in a communique. The incident happened on the night of March 15 on the stairs of an apartment building in Botanica district. The police officers said they had to use the gun as the young man injured a policeman in the leg with a knife. Witnesses say yet the police officer confused the young man with another person and shot without firing warning shots. The relatives of the young man demanded the police officer be brought to justice. The shot young man had a younger sister and brother whom he looked after. Their mother passed away.
