The Prosecutor’s Office of Riscani district identified a number of unauthorized parking lots that worked without cash registers. As a result, there were started seven criminal cases, Info-Prim Neo reports. Prosecutor Igor Popa told a news conference on October 9 that during inspections they found 18 economic entities that provided parking services in the district, but one of them worked legally. “The persons who worked at the parking lots did not have work contracts. There were used no cash registers and thus the collected money wasn’t declared,” said the prosecutor. The parking fee for a vehicle varied between 10 and 12 lei a day, while the parking lots had a capacity of up to 300 cars. The plots on which the lots were situated belong to the state. Only some of them are private property. Igor Popa also said that the relevant state bodies and the local public administration were asked to take steps to remove the identified violations. Under a Government Decision, the parking lots with payment are managed by the local public authorities. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the head of the General Public Transport and Communications Division Adrian Boldurescu said that the City Hall can only issue authorizations for the legal parking lots that charge fees. In the case of unauthorized parking lots, the responsibility is borne by the inspection bodies. “I assure you that if the combating of illegal parking lots had been within the remit of the municipal authorities, the situation would have been different. But we cannot impose fines or take measures,” he stated.
