The Chisinau Court, Buiucani branch, has rejected the prosecutors' request for the preventive arrest of Evghenia Gutul. This case is separate from the one in which the governor was placed in detention for 20 days, IPN reports.
The hearing was held in the case where Gutul is accused of illegally financing political parties or electoral campaigns and violating the rules for managing political party funds or electoral finances.
In the case where she is charged with fraudulent management of electoral funds, illegal financing, and false statements during the campaign for the governor’s election, the Chisinau Court, Ciocana branch, issued a 20-day arrest warrant last Friday. The measure was applied after Guțul was detained on the evening of March 25 at Chișinău Airport, where she was preparing to board a flight to Istanbul, Turkey.
The preventive arrest warrant issued on Friday for 20 days has been contested by the governor's lawyers. Tomorrow at 13:00, the Court of Appeal judges will review the defense's appeal.
Evghenia Gutul pleads not guilty. Accompanied by multiple police officers at court hearings, the governor has not been able to make any statements.
