The prosecutors demand four years and six months in semi-closed prison and a fine of 25,000 lei for the chairman of the Party “Our Home Moldova” Grigore Petrenco. He, together with another six colleagues, is accused of public disorder and of putting up resistance to the police during a protest mounted at the Prosecutor General’s Office in September 2015, IPN reports.

For four of the defendants, the prosecutors ask for three years in jail without fine, while for another two for three years and a half in prison, with fines of 25,000 lei. In the June 23 hearing, the judges read the indictment.

After the hearing, Grigore Petrenco told the press that he and his colleagues asked for a reasonable timeframe for examining the indictment. “We continue to plead not guilty,” he stated, saying the case is political in character.

Nicu Sendrea, the prosecutor who is dealing with the case of the Petrenco group, said the seven defendants are accused of serious offenses committed with intent. Therefore they ask for placing these in semi-closed jail.

The next hearing was set for June 28.
