Members of the National Unity Bloc staged a protest against the decision to expel Romanian citizen George Simion from Moldova in front of the head office of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) on July 3. The protesters demanded reforming the SIS and adopting a Lustration Law, IPN reports.

“The abusive methods of the SIS, witnessed also in the case of the illegal expulsion of George Simion, on the one hand, and the evident lack of professionalism, on the other hand, reveal the need to immediately reform this service. An important step in this direction is to immediately implement the Law on the Archive Stock, which obliges unconditionally declassifying all the cases,” said Constantin Codreanu, the representative of the National Unity Bloc.

The organizers of the protest said the Law on the Archive Stock is seriously violated and its enforcement is a precondition for adopting the future Lustration Law.

The protesters chanted peacefully “SIS KGB-ist”, “We want a Lustration Law“ and other slogans. There was shown a ‘file’ with texts in Cyrillic script and with photos of Moldovan officials together with leaders from Tiraspol and from Russia (Dmitri Rogozin) who should be jailed, according to the protesters.

Constantin Codreanu voiced hope that their message will be heard not only by the SIS, but also by the whole Moldovan society. “If our demands are not satisfied, we will stage new protests and will go to the ECHR. We will make a public call to all the forces of Moldova to make common cause and stop these abuses,” he stated.

On May 13, the leader of the Unionist Platform “Actiunea 2012” George Simion was declared undesirable in Moldova and banned from entering the country for a five-year period.

The National Unity Bloc brings together 22 civic entities.
