The General Assembly of Citizens that was convened by the Committee of the National Resistance Movement ACUM adopted a resolution by which the protesters demand that the Filip Government should resign. The executive is accused of the progressive worsening of the situation of the people, antidemocratic deviations, the failure of the European integration policies and the international isolation of the Republic of Moldova. The resolution was adopted following concerns about the restraining of the democratic freedoms, consolidation of the authoritarian regime and the government’s anti-people, anti-democratic and discriminatory acts, IPN reports.
“The incompetent, irresponsible and corrupt government discredited the reforms and the country’s European course, being directly responsible for the non-implementation of the agreement on macro-financial assistance between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the European Union. The Government is responsible for the failure of the justice sector reform that ended with the annulment of the early mayoral elections in Chisinau, despite the generous support provided by the Western partners for the justice system to become an independent and responsible one,” says the resolution.
The protesters demand to organize free and fair parliamentary elections based on the proportional representation system that, according to them, ensures high representation in the current conditions of the Republic of Moldova, to validate the June 3 Chisinau mayoral elections and to immediately annul the capital amnesty and the law that makes the people repay the stolen funds, to stop the political persecutions against the democratic opposition and the intimidation of people for their political beliefs.
The people also demand to complete the investigation into the theft of the US$ 1 billion from the banking system and to hold accountable all the officials involved in this theft and to adopt the Magnitski law that aligns Moldova to the integrity standards needed to disconnect the national banking system from the international organized crime networks. The responsible European institutions are requested to hold accountable all the persons with Moldovan nationality involved in the theft of the US$ 1 billion on the territory of EU member states.
According to the organizers of the protest, the resolution was adopted in reaction to the ignoring by the government of the demands formulated by the people and the Committee of the National Resistance Movement ACUM in the resolution of July 1, 2018.
